/ MY STORY

I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I thought... maybe I could be a nurse like my mom? ... or a flight attendant so I can travel the world! Well, having no interest in chemistry and being queasy around body fluids, it was obvious that nursing wasn't for me.

After my daughter was born, being a flight attendant made little to no sense since I wanted to be her main caregiver, not relying on a babysitter or daycare. So, I worked at Walmart where I could help the cake decorator, something I knew I loved to do. Later, I worked at an office doing bilingual customer service and shipping so that I could have a steady work week. While I was there, I noticed my artistic side playing a role in business decisions like marketing, communication and efficiency. I decided then that I would take the business administration program at NSCC. It was around this time that friends and friends of friends started asking me for birthday cakes. I always did it, because I loved to bake and decorate cakes. Finally, in 2021, after the pandemic put my daughter out of school, I quit my job that was draining the spirit out of me, moved back home with mom and dad, and did a full time semester to speed up my graduation process. I had an idea for mothers day that would include 4 cupcakes, decorated with roses that came with a handwritten note and a real rose. It was a huge hit! After that, my small cake business started to grow.

Today I am able to support my daughter and I with cakes. I now have my business Administration Diploma from NSCC and work full time from my new home where I live with my family.
